I.
The local business exists before the webpage
A plumber is not a URL. A dentist is not a title tag. A restaurant is not a Google Business Profile. Those are representations of the same real-world entity. Local SEO becomes fragile when each representation is optimized independently and the underlying facts drift.
Google’s local-ranking guidance starts with relevance: how well the Business Profile matches what someone is searching for. Google recommends complete and detailed information to help it understand the business.[1] The practical objective is therefore not “put the keyword everywhere.” It is “make the same truthful entity easy to resolve everywhere.”
II.
Start with the entity, not the query variation
Represent the durable relationships first. The business is a category. It is located at, or serves, a geography. It provides services. Providers perform those services. Reviews describe customer experiences. Case studies demonstrate the service. The phrasing of queries can change while those relationships remain stable — which is why a site built on the relationships outlasts a site built on this month’s keyword list.
III.
The website should make the relationships navigable
Google says links help it discover pages and understand relationships and relative importance.[4] Build the architecture so entity classes are obvious: services, locations or communities where legitimate, providers, research and case studies, and customer information. Then use contextual links to connect the classes rather than multiplying combined URLs.
Example: a community page answers how the place relates to the business and how residents access the service. A service page answers what the service is, who it is for, what it involves and how it is delivered. The contextual bridge — “residents can access this service at this business” — connects the two topical maps without requiring a duplicate /community/service/ page for every combination.

URL folders classify. Links explain.
A path such as /communities/summerside/ can make the page class legible to users, but the folder itself does not establish the full relationship. Page copy, breadcrumbs, internal links and structured data must still explain what Summerside is and how it relates to the clinic. URL depth is not a substitute for crawlable architecture.

Structured data is explicit classification, not magic
Google describes structured data as a standardized format for providing explicit clues about page meaning.[3] Use Organization and LocalBusiness markup to describe the visible, truthful organization or location; BreadcrumbList to reflect navigation hierarchy; Dataset only for genuine datasets. Structured data should mirror the page, not invent a richer entity than the visible content supports.
VI.
Entity consistency is a reconciliation problem
If the site, Business Profile, directories and social profiles use materially different names, addresses, phone numbers or organization descriptions, machines and people have a reconciliation problem. Some variation can be legitimate, but ambiguity has no upside. Define canonical business identity fields and control them.

Services should be entities, not keyword piles
A service page should own a service entity and expand its attributes: purpose, eligibility, process, inputs, outputs, alternatives, risks or limitations, provider, location and next action where applicable. The page does not need dozens of repetitive query strings if the entity and relationships are complete.[6]

Geographic pages require a different source context
A geographic page should inherit attributes from geography: place type, proximity, route, access, boundaries, local evidence and the business relationship. It should not simply duplicate the service explanation with a city name swapped in. This is the semantic protection against doorway-style city-page spam — and the reason a measured view of the actual market beats a page factory. When the question is which geography deserves a page at all, a citywide competitor sweep shows where visibility is contested and where it is open.
IX.
Images belong in the semantic graph
Google’s image guidance emphasizes accessibility and landing-page context.[5] The practical rule is multimodal agreement: heading, visible subject, image, accurate alt text, caption and image metadata all describing the same thing. A filename does not rescue an unrelated stock image.

Internal linking is where the network becomes real
A topical map in a spreadsheet is not a website. Build relationship-based links: condition to treatment, community to business, community to relevant service, provider to service, case study to service, research to instrument, instrument to methodology. Prefer descriptive contextual anchors over generic “learn more” labels — the anchor should describe the relationship it crosses.[4]

Publish evidence as first-class content
Taxonomies are easy to copy. Operational history is not. Case studies, photographs, measurements, datasets and documented procedures are the information-gain layer competitors cannot reproduce. Google’s people-first guidance specifically asks whether content contains original information, research or analysis and demonstrates first-hand expertise.[2] This is why review evidence and measured rankings belong upstream of content production, and why every DecodeLocal exhibit carries its market, date and method.
XII.
The doctrine
Semantic local SEO is not synonym stuffing. Define real entities, their important attributes and truthful relationships. Give important intents canonical pages. Connect them with crawlable contextual links. Use structured data to mirror the same facts. Use images and evidence to demonstrate claims. Use geographic pages to explain geography and service pages to explain services. Do not manufacture a new URL every time two entities can be combined into a keyword.
